Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling, is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny sterile needles in order to induce tissue remodelling via internally producing collagen to directly affect the skin.

A topical cream is applied to numb the area around 45 minutes before the treatment is carried out, there may be slight discomfort during the procedure.
The treatment works well on acne scarring, pitted skin, ageing skin, pigmented skin or stretch marks. Results depend on the severity of the condition. The face, neck, décolleté are popular areas to treat, but the SkinPen could also be used to treat ageing skin on the backs of the hands or stretch marks on other parts of the body. If you are unsure then this can be addressed in the consultation for the treatment.
Generally a course of 3-6 treatments are needed to get the best results. For treatments such as those on deeper acne scarring, pitted skin or stretch marks treatment are normally carried out at 6 weekly intervals as there is a longer recovery period, and these issues generally take longer to see overall results. For general skin rejuvenation the treatments are at 4 weekly intervals.
The skin will appear very red after treatment and may feel sensitive, if an area such as the décolleté was being treated then this could be covered and you may return to work. You are not able to apply make up to the face for 24 hours after the procedure so you may not wish to return to work until the skin had returned to normal. This normally happens within 24-48 hours.
Always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area, the holes remain open for several hours post treatment and may give rise to infection from non sterile contact.
Use a soothing cleanser on facial area following treatment. The skin may feel drier than normal post treatment. Hyaluronic Acid is used during and after the treatment, it’s an ideal ingredient to hydrate and restore the skin balance. No make up to be applied for 24 hours post treatment. Make sure the area is covered with a broad spectrum SPF 40 to protect the skin.
No active skincare such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids or Retinol (Vitamin A) should be used for at least 2 days post treatment.
The SkinPen Precision device does not need to draw blood to get the results, there is very little blood during or post treatment.
