A|C|C|O|R® Cosmetic Plasma Corrector

The ageing process can bring some unwanted changes to the appearance of our skin. Lines, wrinkles and sagging skin, dark spots and pigmentation, drooping upper and lower eye bags and unsightly skin lesions can all add up to a stark reminder that time is not on our side. In the past, for many of these issues, invasive surgery was the only way to solve them and this could prove expensive, risky and with an extensive amount of recovery time. At Renatus Clinic in Cawston, Rugby, we are always seeking new and innovative non-surgical procedures that can offer highly-effective results with as little downtime as possible. We have discovered plasma technology as the answer to many of the skin concerns one faces when experiencing facial ageing and choose the A|C|C|O|R® Cosmetic Corrector, the world’s number one plasma pen device, to deliver this treatment.

What is plasma pen technology?

Plasma is the 4th state of matter, following solid, liquid and gas. Plasma is all around us and the largest mass of plasma there is, is the sun. Plasma is created when a gas is ionised. In the case of plasma technology, we use the oxygen in the air and a small electric charge to deliver a plasma ‘arc’ on to the skin. This in-turn vaporises tiny ‘dots’ of skin, causing an immediate skin tightening effect. In the case of upper and lower eye bags, the skin can be non-surgically removed, immediately and skin lesions can be ‘ablated’ away in a matter of seconds. As plasma technology creates a ‘wound healing’ response, new collagen within the dermis is formed, helping the skin to become more plump, resilient and youthful-looking. Following a period of 7 to 10 days, where tiny dots are left on the skin, to gradually heal and close, you will be left with a tighter, toned and more healthy complexion. Lines and wrinkles can literally be erased and sagging skin such as jowls can be lifted and tightened.

FAQs

Am I suitable for an A|C|C|O|R® plasma pen treatment?

As A|C|C|O|R® plasma pen treatment uses an ablative technology to vaporise the skin, it’s important to find out if you will be suitable for a particular treatment, as there are some contraindications that would prevent or restrict a plasma treatment from going ahead. Some darker skins may not be suitable for plasma as hyperpigmentation or indeed, hypopigmentation could be a risk factor for Asian to African skins. However, at a no obligation consultation here at Renatus Clinic, we will check your medical history as well as examine the areas of concern and offer a patch test, prior to any treatment being carried out. After 7 days following your patch test, you can then return for the treatment, all being well.

What happens during an A|C|C|O|R® plasma treatment?

Whichever treatment you are undergoing, a topical numbing cream will be applied around 30 to 40 minutes, prior to the procedure. A|C|C|O|R® plasma pen therapies use heat to cauterize the skin, therefore, a numbing cream is necessary, in order to make you as comfortable as possible. Once you are numb, your practitioner will begin the treatment, using the device to ablate away the skin, as she sees fit. Treatment times depend on the areas to be treated. A skin tag will take a couple of minutes, an upper eyelid lift, around 20 minutes. If you have a significant area or multiple areas to be treated, you may need two or more sessions to complete the treatment, as sufficient healing time is required for larger or multiple areas.

Does plasma pen treatment hurt?

A numbing cream is applied prior to treatment. However, as with many ablative skin therapies and depending on your own tolerance to discomfort and the area being treated, you may experience some warming or stinging sensations during the procedure. Your practitioner will ensure that you are fully numb beforehand and will work to your sensitivity levels. As the A|C|C|O|R® offers low-frequency technology, there is significantly less discomfort than many competitor products on the market.

Is there downtime?

There will be a period of downtime which is not clinical but ‘vanity’ downtime for around 7 to 14 days. However, you can return to your daily activities immediately after your treatment, as long as you follow the aftercare guidelines given to you by your practitioner. You will need to shield your skin from the sun and you may wish to time your treatment when you do not have any special events or holidays, as there will be visible dots and potentially swelling after your treatment. Exposing your skin to the sun after a plasma treatment can result in hyperpigmentation, which will fade but can extend the downtime significantly. Your practitioner will give you an indication of when it would be best to have any particular treatment, as it is best to time this correctly. We would not recommend going out in to the sun for at least 4 weeks after your plasma treatment and we always recommend using an SPF50 following this procedure. Downtime and recovery will be discussed in full at your no obligation consultation and plasma patch test. Small areas such as skin lesions and the plasma shower do not offer the downtime that a full face rejuvenation or an eye bag removal offers. As the A|C|C|O|R® device offers low-frequency plasma technology, downtime is significantly shorter than other plasma pens on the market.

When will I see results?

Some results are immediate as small particles of skin are removed from the treatment area. However, you will need to allow for healing, which can take anything up to 14 days. During this time, the ablated dots will close and heal and new, fresh, youthful skin will be revealed. Your optimum results can be seen up to 3 months following a plasma treatment, as new collagen and elastin is forming and the skin is healing beneath the surface, during this time. This is why we recommend not to have a second treatment on the same area with plasma within 3 months of your initial treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

This all depends on your individual response and the level of skin laxity. For a skin tag, you will only need one treatment. However, for a full face lift or upper or lower eye bag removal, you may require more than one session with plasma. Your practitioner will discuss expected results and the number of treatments she thinks you will need, at your pre-treatment consultation.

How long do the results last?

Results from skin tightening therapy with the A|C|C|O|R® plasma pen are permanent, as the skin has been removed using the plasma arc. Therefore, you can expect a skin lifting treatment to last years as opposed to months. Plasma pen therapy will not prevent further skin ageing however. Therefore you may require a top up treatment every few years, to maintain your results. If you have a full or part face lift, eye bag removal or skin tightening procedure, you will experience more youthful and resilient skin.
